Dinosaur Train

The boys have a new favorite TV show. It's called Dinosaur Train. The fantastic thing about it is that it is factual enough not to disappoint Colin. He was upset the first time he saw Barney, who was supposed to be a T-Rex, but sporting the wrong number of claws. I'm sure 99% of kids wouldn't notice Barney's flaw, but it was enough to spoil the show for Colin.

The bad part of Dinosaur Train? It's showing Mommy's flaws. I've been reading dinosaur books to Colin since he got interested in them. Most of them have the handy little pronunciation guides next to the long dinosaur names, but it's still really hard to figure out how to pronounce them. So I sort of winged it for some of them. And now we're figuring out from Dinosaur Train that we've been saying some of the names wrong all along.

It started with Ankylosaurus. We were saying "ankle-a-saurus", nope it's "an-KAE-la-saurus". And now we just figured out we have also been pronouncing Giganotosaurus wrong. For all this time. But with a name like "giganotosaurus" and considering it is HUGE, wouldn't you assume the two starting sylables were like "gigantic"? Nope it's Jig-a-no-ta-saurus. Who knew?
